Join us at HfxGames and Collectibles in Dartmouth NS for a day of miniature painting activities and a miniature painting competition! There will be painting classes, speed painting and more. Participate in the miniature painting competition! There are three categories: Fantasy, Sci-fi and Squad. In each category there are divisions for Novice and Master Painters so regardless of your experience level, bring out your minis and get feedback from the judges!

One entry per category per person.
Entry must have been painted by the person entering the miniature.
Miniature must have been painted in 2021.
Miniature may not have been entered previously in any other online or in-person painting contest.
Entry fee $10.00 ($8.70+HST). Entry fee covers entry into all three categories as well as entry in the Speed Painting Competition.
Entire entry, excluding plinth if attached, must fit in a cube measuring 30 cm on each side. No exceptions.
Any figure from any manufacturer may be entered. Special: to reflect the support given to us by Reaper Miniatures, any Reaper figure entered receives an automatic bonus of 1 point in the creativity section.
Entries must be brought to HfxGames & Collectibles between 10am-1 pm on Sunday 28 November 2021 to be registered. Judging will take place from 1-3 pm.
Winners announced at 3 p.m. on Sunday, 28 November 2021.
Hecatina Miniature Painting Studio reserves the right to disqualify any entry that we deem to be offensive (graphic violence, racism, graphic sexual content, etc). If in doubt about whether your entry meets these criteria, ask us in advance.

Best in Show. Selected from among all the entries by the Judges
Special Theme. Rewrite a fairy tale. You can enter anything you want in the showcase, it doesn’t have to fit this theme. Hecatina Miniatures will select their favorite entry that matches this theme for a special award.
Best Reaper Mini. Selected by the Judges from among all the entries that feature Reaper Miniatures
Peoples Choice. Selected by vote from among all entries by the participants
Novice: A miniature painter who is in the early stages of their miniature painting journey who is entering primarily to get feedback and to meet other miniature painters.
Master. A miniature painter who meets any of these criteria: lots of experience, professional or commission painter, has previously won or placed highly in a miniature painting contest or who wants to test their skills against a higher scoring standard.
Judges reserve the right to move any entry from the Novice to Master Category. If you are unsure what category to enter, ask us at registration.
Fantasy, Single Figure. A single figure, bust or diorama measuring no more than 30 cm on a side (must fit in a 30 cm x 30 cm cube) which is primarily of a traditionally fantasy theme (eg elves, hobbits, orcs, fairies, etc). This is the category for your painted miniature of your favorite D&D character.
Sci-fi, Single Figure. A single figure, bust or diorama measuring no more than 30 cm on a side (must fit in a 30 cm x 30 cm cube) which is primarily of a traditionally sci-fi theme (eg space marines, cyborgs, robots, space adventurers). This is the category for your painted miniature of your favorite Starfinder character.
Squad. A small unit of figures, up to a maximum of 6, each on separate bases (although they can be on a single movement or display tray). Must fit in a 30 cm x 30 cm cube. This is the category for your favorite adventuring party or squad of space marines.
Contest Scoring Criteria:
Creativity: Scored out of 10, with up to 4 bonus points possible (max possible score 14)

Squad: unit composition tells a story (provide us a short pre-printed written narrative with your entry to explain the lore)
Workmanship: Scored out of 10

Squad: comparable quality for all figures in the squad

Overall composition (spacing, interaction, symmetry/asymmetry)

Weighted Scoring Criteria: Each of the four scores out of 10 will be multiplied by the % below to get a final score out of 10 for the entry.
